FROM THE CO-PRESIDENTS – SCOTT CAMPBELL AND THOM FABER

By: NAMI-MCHENRY COUNTY,

It has been our pleasure to serve as the Co-Presidents of NAMI-McHenry County during the past year and into the new year ahead! Our past service to the NAMI Board of Directors has been as Vice President for Thom and as Co-President for Scott serving with Dr. Rick Kirchhoff who served as President of NAMI for many years and who remains on the NAMI Board today in the role of Secretary of the Board and Advisor to the Board on matters of mental health Advocacy.

The Mission of NAMI is to provide Support, Education and Advocacy to individuals and their family members living with a mental illness in their family with the goal of improving the quality of life of the individual and their family. HOPE is the cornerstone of Recovery and NAMI is here to HELP!

NAMI-McHenry County offers a wide array of services to individuals and their family members living with a mental illness including: self-help groups, educational classes, workshops, trainings, community presentations and advocacy and the services of three Recovery Support Specialists who use their own lived experience with a mental illness to assist others in their journey toward recovery.  We believe that Recovery from a mental illness is possible!

As a Board of Directors, we have two main goals: To continue to grow and strengthen our Board of Directors by recruiting a diverse group of board members from many of walks of life and professions who share a common PASSION for mental health recovery and NAMI. Our second goal is to plan and initiate an annual NAMI-McHenry County “signature event” as both a “Friend-Raiser” and “Fund-Raiser”. This inaugural event will take place on Saturday May 6th at the Dole Mansion-Lakeside Center in Crystal Lake and will feature four live performances by professional actors from Erasing The Distance in Chicago who will portray real-life stories of people living with a mental illness and their journey of recovery!

We are very excited about this event and encourage all of you to join us on May 6th!  More information can be found on our NAMI website at: www.namimchenrycounty.org.
