Health Education involves “body, mind and spirit.”  The Office for Mission and Spiritual Care at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, sponsors congregational outreach to provide quality innovative Health education programs.  These programs are not just for adults, they also provide health and wellness education to our children as well.  One example was a parenting class that had an education session just for the youth.

Through our partnership with Good Shepherd, we gathered on three separate evenings to give our parents some great insights into key parenting techniques and we invited the parents to bring their school age children along.

While the parents were in class a Nutritionist taught all the children how to make great healthy snacks. These hands-on classes were a hit with the kids because they got the feeling of accomplishment in doing it themselves as well as creating a healthy, tasty snack.

I believe this program “fed” the parents with great information for their parenting toolbox and “fed” the kids with new interesting foods to add to their diet. Advocate provided the professionals needed to facilitate the program and our community members learned valuable lessons and made connections they otherwise might not have.
